Tl;dr My Home Soft Grip Plastic Hangers

Hanger requirements

1. Slimline

We don’t have a big house. And thus we don’t have a lot of storage. I don’t swap clothes out seasonally as I have nowhere to store the off season clothes. I have drawers for underwear, hosiery and pyjamas All my other clothes must be hung. So much as I like fancy wooden hangers they take up too much room. So my hangers have to be slimline.

2. Swivel hook

We dry tops and dresses on their hangers and this often means hanging them off a clothes dryer. I also hang them on a chair while I’m ironing. So I need a swivel hook to make that work.

3. Ok for wet clothes

This is where I can’t do velvet. I have some velvet in the wardrobe but I won’t buy more (I’m not so wasteful as to throw them away but this is where I do a seasonal swap over. The velvet hangers are currently holding my summer dresses)

For years I have been recycling my faithful Next, Sainsbury’s and M&S hangers and they’ve done well. Until son number 1 arrived on the scene. He now needs big people hangers and he is not gentle. We have seen many hanger losses and we thank them for their service. We have had to buy hangers.

What I’ve bought

Amazon basics

Ticks the boxes. Lots of features including trouser hanging. Reasonably priced (currently £14.38 for 30 47p per hanger)

But the bit where it doesn’t join at the top can be a bit awkward and doesn’t help keep the shape of collars when drying.

John Lewis at Waitrose

Picked these up while shopping in Waitrose. Solves the gap at the top. But it turns out they are a bit narrow. Best for tween clothes. But pricier too. (Currently £15 for 10)

The Range

These are my current favourite. Ticks all the boxes and the best value (currently £2.99 for 8 about 37p per hanger). I do wish they were black but not enough to stop me repurchasing last time I was in The Range.
