Gretchen Rubin, who has researched and written a lot about habits, writes that:

You manage what you measure.

For the last couple of years I have been keeping a track of what I am reading and my progress. So far this year I’ve read 34 books.

Reading on a Kindle or other app makes it easy to log your progress but it’s not exactly hard to it manually either!

Goodreads is also a review site so if you are thinking about a book you can see what other people thought first. I quite like reading what other people thought of / felt about a book after I’ve read it as often I gain a different perspective.

You can connect to friends also using Goodreads and see what they are reading and how they’ve rated the books they have read. This is great if you have similar taste. With just one click you can mark the book as “Want to Read”.
